Grounding Magick, spell kit and correspondences
Settling scattered energy, calming the body and reconnecting with the earth.
Grounding brings you back into your body and the present moment. In Wiccan practice it is done before and after ritual, when you feel spacey, anxious or overstimulated, and whenever energy work leaves you buzzing. It draws on the element of earth: weight, stillness, roots and steady breath. Grounding is one of the first skills most teachers share, because a settled witch works more clearly and safely. It can be as simple as placing your feet on the floor and breathing slowly, and the tools here help make that habit easier to return to.
Your grounding spell kit
A simple rooting meditation
- Near the new moon, on a Saturday if you can, set a brown candle in a sturdy holder on a heat-safe surface. Place your hematite and a pinch of dried patchouli beside it.
- Add one drop of vetiver oil to the patchouli, not your skin, and light the candle. Sit with your feet flat on the floor.
- Hold the hematite in your palm and notice its weight. Breathe in for four counts and out for six, letting your shoulders drop with each exhale.
- Picture roots growing from the soles of your feet deep into the earth, drawing excess energy down and steady calm back up. Stay here for several breaths.
- Snuff the candle before you get up. Keep the hematite dry, since it can rust, and hold it whenever you need to come back to center.
Tip: After any ritual, press your palms to the floor for a few breaths to release leftover energy.
