History and folklore
Uruz is usually read as the aurochs, the huge wild ox of ancient Europe that died out in the 1600s. The Old English rune poem describes it as fierce and high-horned, a moor-stepper of great courage, while the Norse rune poems use the word for drizzle or slag instead, showing how meanings shifted. Much of what readers say today is modern interpretation built on these medieval poems. Most take Uruz as untamed strength, health and endurance.
