History and folklore
Libra the Scales is the only zodiac sign shown as an object rather than a living being. Ancient astronomers once counted its stars as the claws of the Scorpion, and the Romans named the scales separately, often linking them to justice. The sun enters Libra at the autumn equinox, when day and night stand equal. Traditional astrology gives the sign to Venus, here turned toward partnership, diplomacy and beauty. Witches favor its season for balance, peace and fair agreements.
