History and folklore
Morganite is the pink member of the beryl family, which also includes emerald and aquamarine. Its blush comes from traces of manganese. It was identified in Madagascar in the early twentieth century, and the gem expert George Kunz named it in 1911 after J. P. Morgan, the banker and gem collector. Because it is so young as a named stone, its correspondences are modern, borrowed largely from rose quartz and other pink stones. Witches use it for compassion, gentle love, and emotional healing.
