History and folklore
Iolite shows different colors from different angles, violet blue one way and almost clear or gray the other. In folklore, Viking navigators are said to have used thin slices of iolite to find the sun on cloudy days, though historians are not certain which stone they used. Its name comes from the Greek ion, violet. Modern witches link it with intuition, vision and finding the way home. It is a lovely companion for travel and journey work.
