History and folklore
Kyanite gets its name from the Greek kyanos, deep blue. It is unusual because it is much harder across the crystal than along it, so the same blade can be scratched one way but not the other. In modern practice it is often said that kyanite does not hold on to negative energy, so many witches use it to cleanse other stones. That is a newer idea rather than ancient lore, but it is a lovely, simple stone for clearing and calm.
