History and folklore
Rhodochrosite is sometimes called Inca Rose, because in folklore it was said to be the hardened blood of ancient Inca rulers. Fine pieces have been mined in Argentina since at least the 1200s, and the deep red crystals from Colorado are now its official state mineral. Its name comes from Greek words meaning rose-colored. Witches today turn to it for self-love work, especially when the hurt is old and needs patience rather than force.
