Safety: Mint is toxic to cats, dogs and horses (ASPCA list). Peppermint essential oil is very strong: never swallow it, always dilute it for skin, keep it out of eyes, keep it away from pets (cats especially), and never use it near the faces of babies or young children. Ask a healthcare provider before using the oil during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

How to use it

  • Room refresh

Rub a few fresh leaves between your palms and wipe them along a doorway or window sill. Breathe in the scent and picture stale energy clearing out.

  • Wallet mint

Tuck a dried mint leaf into your wallet as a folk charm for money flow. Each time you open it, take a breath and think about spending wisely.

  • Clear-head tea

Sip peppermint tea before study, travel or a big conversation. Let the cool taste wake up your mind and help you think and speak clearly.

Works well with

  • Green Candle
  • Green Aventurine
  • ☿︎Wednesday
  • Bergamot

Substitutes

  • Lemon Balm
  • Eucalyptus
  • Basil

History and folklore

Greek myth tells of the nymph Minthe, turned into a humble plant by the goddess Persephone, who left her a sweet scent so she would never be overlooked. Romans crowned themselves with mint at feasts and rubbed it on tables as a sign of welcome. Medieval monks grew it in every cloister garden. In folk magick, mint's sharp, fresh scent is linked to clearing away heaviness, sharpening the mind and keeping money flowing freely.
