History and folklore
Virgo the Maiden is often pictured holding a sheaf of wheat, and its bright star Spica means ear of grain. Greek writers linked her to Astraea, goddess of justice who left the earth, and to Demeter or Persephone and the harvest. Virgo's season falls as fields are gathered in. Traditional astrology gives the sign to Mercury, turned here toward skill, analysis, healing work and craft. Witches use it for herbal study, cleansing, organization and practical magick.
