History and folklore

Marjoram is a Mediterranean herb closely related to oregano. In Greek myth it was said that Aphrodite gave marjoram its sweet scent, and Greek and Roman couples traditionally wore crowns of marjoram at weddings. Greeks also planted it on graves to give the dead peace and comfort. In European folk magick it was used to bring happiness and drive away sorrow. Modern witches still use marjoram for love, joy, protection and comfort during times of grief.
