History and folklore
Lady's mantle has soft, scalloped leaves that catch dew and raindrops in shining beads. Medieval alchemists collected this dew, believing it could help turn base metals into gold, which gave the plant its scientific name Alchemilla, little alchemist. Its scalloped leaves were said to resemble the cloak of the Virgin Mary, hence lady's mantle. Witches use it for love, gentle care and transformation, and gathering its dew at Beltane dawn is a lovely seasonal practice.
