Safety: Sacred lotus (Nelumbo nucifera) seeds and roots are eaten as food, but do not take blue lotus (Nymphaea caerulea) internally; it has psychoactive effects and may not be legal everywhere. Avoid internal use while pregnant or breastfeeding. Pet safety is not well studied, so keep dried flowers and pods away from cats and dogs. Most lotus oils sold are blends; never swallow them and always dilute for skin.
