History and folklore
Dumortierite was named in 1881 after the French paleontologist Eugene Dumortier, and it was first described from near Lyon, France. It is a boron-bearing mineral that most often grows as fine fibers inside quartz, giving the stone its deep denim color, which is why it is sometimes sold as blue quartz. It has little traditional folklore, so its correspondences are modern. Witches use it as a patient, orderly stone for study, focus and calm self-discipline.
