History and folklore

Epidote takes its name from the Greek epidosis, meaning increase, because one side of its crystal is longer than the other. It is a common mineral in metamorphic rock and gives unakite its green color. Fine crystals come from the Knappenwand in Austria and from Pakistan. Witches lean on the meaning of its name, using epidote for growth and increase: a stone to set beside anything you want to see flourish, from savings to seedlings to new habits.
