History and folklore
Lavender grows wild on dry, sunny Mediterranean hillsides. The Romans scented their baths with it, and its name is often linked to the Latin lavare, to wash. Medieval and Tudor households strewed it on floors and tucked it in linens, and folklore says it was used to ward off evil and to attract love. Today lavender oil is one of the most popular in any witch's cabinet, a gentle helper for peace, sleep, cleansing and kindness.
