History and folklore
Eggs have stood for birth and new life in many cultures, and the shell is the barrier that keeps that life safe. In Afro-Caribbean and Latin American traditions, a fine eggshell powder called cascarilla is used for protection, cleansing and marking sacred space. In European folk magick, eggshells were crushed and buried or scattered to guard a home. Modern witches use them as a gentle, protective and purifying ingredient they can make at home.
