History and folklore
Ancient Greek thinkers added a fifth element, aether, the pure substance of the heavens, to the four earthly ones. In Hindu thought a similar idea is called akasha, the space that holds all things. In Wicca, Spirit sits at the top point of the pentagram, joining Earth, Air, Fire and Water into a living whole. It is not called from a single direction but felt at the center of the circle, above and below. Witches connect with Spirit through meditation, devotion and simply paying attention.
