History and folklore
Kenaz is reconstructed partly from the Old English rune poem, where cen is a torch, bright and burning where nobles rest indoors. The Norwegian and Icelandic poems give the rune a different name, kaun, meaning sore or ulcer, which shows how widely rune meanings varied. Modern readers mostly follow the torch reading, so much of today's lore is interpretation rather than ancient record. Kenaz is seen as illumination, craft, creativity and the fire of knowledge passed on.
