Safety: Calcite is soft (about 3 on the Mohs scale) and scratches easily. Water dulls its surface and acids such as vinegar or lemon juice dissolve it, so do not soak it or make crystal elixirs with it. Cleanse it with smoke, sound or moonlight.

How to use it

  • Bedtime calm

Keep a piece of blue calcite on your nightstand. Before sleep, hold it, breathe out slowly three times, and name one thing you can set down for the night.

  • Soften your words

Hold blue calcite before a tense call or meeting. Let its color remind you to speak slowly and listen fully, and keep it nearby while you talk.

  • Peaceful water altar

Place blue calcite beside a blue candle and a small shell on a Monday evening. Light the candle safely and sit quietly for a few minutes, letting your thoughts settle.

Works well with

  • Blue Candle
  • Chamomile
  • Lavender
  • ☽︎Monday
  • The Moon
  • Water

Substitutes

  • Celestite
  • Blue Lace Agate
  • Angelite

History and folklore

Calcite takes its name from the Latin calx, meaning lime, since it is the main mineral in limestone and marble. Clear calcite splits light into a double image, and some historians think Viking sailors may have used it to find the sun on cloudy days, though this is still debated. Blue calcite, mostly from Mexico, is a gentle member of the family. Modern witches keep it for calm, easy sleep and softer words, a small piece of quiet sky to hold.
